WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES: A man suffered horrific injuries when he was impaled by a seven-foot-long steel bar in China, but he survived the incident and was taken to the hospital for treatment
A man miraculously survived after he accidentally fell and was impaled by a 7ft-long steel bar that ran clean through his chest and exited before then plunging through his head. 2.5 Square Tubing
Shocking footage - captured at the scene of the accident in Chongqing, southwestern China - shows the badly wounded man lying on a wooden plank placed atop two plastic stools keeping him immobilised.
Horrifying close-ups show the steel bar sticking out his chest, exiting from under his right-side clavicle, and then going into his head through his neck and out his left cheek.
Numerous paramedics can be seen around him, checking his vitals while firemen prep for a delicate extraction of the steel pole.
Medics were reportedly unable to place him inside an ambulance with the nearly 7ft-long piece of steel stuck in his upper body.
Instead, firefighters had to carefully cut through the metal bar right on the spot by using an angle grinder to remove the extra length.
Medical staff supported his right arm as the firefighters slowly worked at cutting away the steel pole.
To prevent the bar from overheating as well as causing secondary injuries to the wounded worker, rescuers poured water to cool the metal being removed.
Thankfully, they were able to cut through swiftly and the man was taken to hospital for treatment.
It is unclear why the worker fell and if there were any pre-existing safety hazards at the construction site.
The cause of the accident remains under further investigation.
Local authorities reminded citizens that construction sites are high-risk areas, and they must pay attention to safety.
They also called for companies to enforce stricter security rules and carefully carry out risk identification.
If a worker is injured - they reminded - witnesses should immediately call emergency services and under no circumstances move the injured person.
