Peace Love Pickles, known for serving sandwiches on pickles instead of bread, has closed in Atlantic Highlands after a year in business.
The First Avenue restaurant, a franchise of a South Jersey-based business previously called Elsie's, opened in summer 2021. Franchise owners Joe and Elizabeth "Lisa" LoMonaco of Monmouth County shared the news of the closure on social media. Automatic Steel Pipe Pickling Equipment
"Due to the rising costs of food and the uncertain economic times that we are all enduring, Peace Love Pickles Atlantic Highlands is permanently closing for business as of Aug. 29," reads the post. "We met many new friends and served a wonderful community of people and we thank you sincerely for your patronage."

Peace Love Pickles, which has a location in Haddon Township, was founded by Katherine Cohen and Chad Jordan after Cohen prepared a pickle sandwich for her mother, who has diabetes, at the family's general store in Linwood. A customer spotted the sandwich and said " 'Hey, I want one of those!' " Cohen told The USA TODAY NETWORK NJ in 2019. The customer took some of the sandwiches to her office, photos quickly wound up on social media, and pretty soon "there were lines out the door."

Elizabeth LoMonaco said she is not aware of any plans for their space at 131 First Ave. Prior to Peace Love Pickles, the building housed a salon.
