People think these glass Miu Miu matchsticks look like... something else | Dazed

This week saw the creative masses descend on Miami as Art Basel and Design Miami/ kicked off in the Floridian city. So far, highlights have included Kim Jones revealing his latest collection for Dior (with a little help from Shawn Stüssy), designer Harry Nuriev presenting a Balenciaga sofa, Bottega Veneta throwing open the doors of its very own neon-lit diner, and Grimes, Nina Kraviz, and SOPHIE joining forces to debut their collaborative one-night-only musical experience Bio-Haque.

Miu Miu, meanwhile, took a slightly more subdued approach when it came to marking the 2019 iteration of Miami Basel. Teaming up with creative agency M/M Paris, the Italian label headed up by Miuccia Prada presented a beautiful wooden stool studded with what look like glass marbles, which can be moved around the seat and legs to create your own unique pattern.  Glitter For Candles

It’s when these marbles are removed from the stool that questions arise, however. Though Miu Miu describes them as ‘matchsticks’, on first glance, the small glass pieces could easily be mistaken for decorative glass pipes, as a number of the label’s Instagram followers pointed out. “Butt plug or pipe?” asked one. “Either way, I’m down.”

Though Miu Miu has not responded to the comments, on closer inspection the matchsticks are revealed to have no functional purpose other than to look chic across what we can only imagine is an uber-expensive bit of furniture. Pity.
