Oct 28 | Waltham Fields Community Farm: Felting Fall | Waltham, MA Patch

Join us for a fiber experience like no other! Immerse yourself in the natural world on the farm and soak up the autumn colors, sights, and sounds. Meet our loving, fiber-producing rabbit family while exploring pumpkins, gourds and squash of all sorts. Sip herb tea and munch on cookies while learning a new craft, or improve your skills with WFCF Director of Education, rabbit trainer, and fiber artist, Jessica Herwick.

Meet other makers who share an enthusiasm for natural art and sustainable fiber and explore at your own pace of learning. All levels of experience are welcome to this makers gathering!

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Learn about the history of wool and the various methods used throughout the centuries to create art and textiles that have kept humans warm, boats sailing, and homesteads warm for centuries. Meet a few members of our angora rabbit fiber family for inspiration and cuddles, and enjoy some warm seasonally spiced tea and cookies while you create with your community! Participants will manipulate wool from their kits using the art of needle felting or wet felting to create an autumn landscape felt painting, or a 3 dimensional wool sculpture, to reflect your experience.

ABOUT THE FELTING KITS: All participants will receive a kit with supplies to explore wet felting and needle felting during the workshop, and will receive a demonstration of both methods. Material kits and all materials included are yours to keep, packed with enough roving and supplies to continue your crafting adventure at home.

We will have company from the Fiber Rabbit Adventure family during the entire workshop. Opportunities to pet, photograph, feed and take selfies with the rabbits are built into our agenda. Rabbits will not be available for handling, holding or picking up during this workshop but will be accessible for your company.

A note about youth participants: Youth 8 - 18 yrs are welcome to attend if accompanied by an adult, but please be aware needle felting requires very sharp needles and some tools that must be used carefully or can cause serious injury. Youth 12 years and younger will be asked to wet felt only while at the workshop.
