Cook County Commissioner Josina Morita is holding a reusable bag giveaway at her Evanston district office Monday afternoon — the day before the city’s ban on single-use plastic shopping bags takes effect. Baby Bath Book
Morita says she’s partnered with members of the city’s state legislative delegation — Sen. Laura Fine, Rep Robyn Gable and Rep. Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz — to give away 1,000 insulated, reusable grocery bags from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday her district office, 908 Sherman Ave.
The plastic bag ban ordinance will also impose a 10-cent charge on paper grocery bags.
The City Council adopted the bag ban ordinance on May 22 with an effective date of Aug. 1.

A better incentive would be for stores to give a .05 of .10 rebate for using reusable bags.
I agree w/ Daniel. Instead, another article in “Evanston Now” states that the store will get to keep 5 cents of the 10 cent tax per PAPER or plastic bag. That incentivizes the stores to encourage shoppers to use the stores paper bags rather than to bring their own bags. Yes, a .05 or .10 rebate per reusable bag would be a better incentive. At Whole Foods, their incentive has been to not charge you an additional .10 per bag IF you use your own reusable bag(s).
